I spotted a glaring error yesterday in the Sports section of The Denver Post newspaper and it made me wonder if the copy editor had fallen asleep on the job or if spelling doesn’t count in sports.
The error seems to be more than a typo, too.
I found the mistake at the end of the TV & Radio column written by Dusty Saunders with the headline, “Three-person TV crew a recipe for overload.” Here it is:
Longtime Denver journalist Dusty Saunders rites about sports media Monday in The Denver Post. He’s the author of “Heeere’s Dusty: Life in the TV and Newspaper World.”
Can you spot the error? Hint: it isn’t heeere’s.
I’m a journalist by training and a former English teacher. I can’t help but be bothered when I see errors like that.
I’d be interested to hear your take on finding misspelled words in newspapers, magazines, books, websites, blogs, etc.
First, do you notice errors? Second, do errors like that bother you?
And third, does spelling count in sports?
